Sept. 11 action at Ground Zero, NYC

Sept. 11, 2008, myself and fellow IVAW member James Gilligan held an informal honor guard ceremony on the East Side of Ground Zero from five minutes before the first plane hit until five minutes after the second tower fell to show respect for the 2,751 people who lost their lives there before this awful war on terror ever started.

Though the tragedy of 9/11 has been shrouded in mystery and used to justify the unlawful killing of far more than a million, it remains an American tragedy none-the-less that we all must collectively come to terms with and recover from.

As a member of IVAW, I spend a lot of time in the streets informing the masses of some pretty upsetting and inflaming truths about what our county is doing abroad and right here at home. However, it was a somber breath of fresh air to unite with ALL my fellow Americans and grieve for a day the lives senselessly stolen from us in the World Trade Center attacks.

I hope we make this a yearly thing and will have even more participation next year. It did my heart a lot of good. Besides which, we made the New York Times.
