My announcement not to go to Iraq in Washington D.C. 15MAY08

My announcement in Washington D.C. of my intentions not to report to active duty to be deployed to Iraq May 15, 2008.

My announcement was made after nine fellow members of Iraq Veterans Against the War testified to Congress about the abhorid conditions they observed and help to create in Iraq. Immediately following my anouncement, I returned home to make up finals at Brooklyn College before returning to D.C. where for more than a month, I met daily with Members of Congress compelling them to speak up in defense of folks like me.

Much help and support was given to me during this time by Kris Goldsmith (IVAW), our friend Nicole Trano and members of the IVAW D.C. chapter. I thought the government was going to bust down the door and drag me away in handcuffs. As it turned out, I had a lot more rope than I thought.
